Additional Information

The Rock River Archeological Society (RRAS) hosts a weekend historical/educational event annually. This is a great, admission-free, family event with something for all ages. All activities are held outdoors and inside the building between 10 A.M. and 5 P.M. on Saturday, October 8th and 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. on Sunday, October 9th at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center located between Horicon and Mayville on Hwy. 28. Enjoy the special food prepared by Chef Anthony Madison. Water and popcorn will be offered for sale by the RRAS. A buckskinner encampment with Dirty Kettle and friends will both fascinate and educate young and old. Walk into a Wigwam, hear stories, try throwing a tomahawk. Join Dirty Kettle at 4:30 P.M. on Saturday for a flute circle with a drum circle to follow. Take in the Flags of Wisconsin 11 Sovereign Nations and see the Voyager Canoe up close and visit with the man who, dressed in period costume, can tell you about the life of an early Mountain Man. There will be atlatl demonstrations and a chance to try throwing the atlatl at a target. Get a feel for how early man took down the largest of beasts in order to feed the family. Vendors will be on site with fry bread to taste and items of interest from jewelry to Native American reproductions. Inside the building one will find a beautiful display of museum-quality artifacts and be able to visit with the collectors. Plus there will be activities for children inside and outside, such as corn grinding and fire starting techniques. Schedule may be subject to changes due to weather/speaker circumstances. More information about the RRAS can be obtained on Facebook or by calling President Julie Flemming at 920-928-6094 or 920-210-7865. Websites of Interest! Check out the Friends group on Facebook!
