SafetyThe City of Horicon maintains a professional, full-time, Police Department that provides services to the community year-round. The Police Department is progressive and community oriented in focus. Members of the Department undergo continuous training and education in law enforcement and related skills, enhancing their job proficiency and competence. The Department has developed strong associations with agencies from the surrounding area, interacting through various law enforcement programs, creating a total blanket of security and protection for the community. The Police Department interacts with the community, and develops relationships with citizens through a variety of programs. The most prominent of these is patrol operations. The three modes of patrol that are most commonly used by the Horicon Police Department include; squad patrol, bicycle patrol, and foot patrol. For the youth in the community, the Police Department provides education on a variety of topics through programs designed to build both knowledge and rapport. For adults, the Police Department has a Citizen Ride-Along program and a Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The CPA is run at Horicons Public Safety Building and provides a broad perspective and knowledge of local and state police operations. Horicon has an active Neighborhood Watch program that is mentored by the Police Department, and participated in by observant and concerned citizens. The Police Department has a quick response time to calls for service. As First Responders, they have the skills and training necessary to meet a variety of emergency conditions; medical, physical, or environmental. As such, the City of Horicon enjoys a low level of crime and a superior level of safety. This is the goal any community would be proud of, and one that Horicon has achieved and maintained. In November 2008 the Horicon Police Department began implementing a Police Canine program that will focus on search, rescue, narcotics detections, and evidence recovery. ![]() ![]() LibraryHoricon has had a public library for more than 150 years.
