Movies at the Marsh is an event hosted by The Friends of the Horicon Marsh. It will be shown on our new state-of-the-art big screen, in our new auditorium at the Horicon Marsh International Education Center, N7725 Highway 28, Horicon WI.

Rock River Archaeological Society's Archeology Weekend

Free Event and Open to the Public

The Spring event is held at the Horicon Marsh that has been home for people for the last 10,000 years. Many artifacts have been found in the area from many campsites, burial mounds and hunting grounds of the ancient ones.
There will be local collectors to show and tell about their findings. Bill Volkert, DNR Educator/Naturalist, will give a talk about Horicon's Indian History at 10:30 a.m., May 2. Book signing by Susan Brunner and Jennee Harmuth, authors of the book "Horicon and Horicon Marsh" will be 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. on May 2.
On Sat. and Sunday there will be hands-on Atl-Atl demonstrations, fire starting, corn grinding, authentic Buckskinners Camp, Native American Storytelling, American Indian Drumming and Flintnapping demonstrations. Plus a bake sale both days.
The Nitschke Mounds County Park, southwest of Horicon Marsh at W 5984 County Rd.(east of Hwy. 26) will be open to the public.

Welcome to the Horicon Marsh Bird Festival May 8 - 11, 2009

It's For The Birds

Horicon Marsh

This vast wetland is both a State Wildlife Area and a National Wildlife Refuge. Originally established as habitat for migrating and nesting ducks, it has since become a stopover for Canada Geese.

Today, Horicon Marsh is increasingly recognized and managed as a wetland ecosystem for all of its plants and animals. Horicon Marsh has been designated as a, Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention and a, Globality Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy. No group of wildlife better represents the vitality of this marsh better than its birds. Over the years, a total of 268 species of birds have been sighted on this marsh.

If you're a birder or a naturalist or just someone who enjoys the beauty of nature we encourage you to come visit Horicon Marsh. The Horicon Marsh Bird Festval will focus on introducing vititors to many of these birds at the peak of the spring migration. The Saterlee Clark House Historical Museum, 322 Winter St, Horicon, will be open from 1:00PM - 4:00PM on the following dates -
May 23, June 27, July 24, August 22, September 26 and October 24.
The Horicon Historical Museum is composed of three buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse. It offers a wide variety of exhibits, such as early farm equipment, an arrowhead collection and photographs of Horicon's past. The museum also has a microfilm collection of county census records and local newspapers for those who are interested in doing research. There is also an ongoing flea market for bargain hunters. There is no admission charge.

Fall Naturalist Program Schedule 2009

Each spring and fall, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers a series of public naturalist programs to introduce visitors and interested persons to the geology, history, wildlife and management of the Horicon Marsh ecosystem. Programs will be conducted at the International Education Center, located on Highway 28 between the cities of Horicon and Mayville. All programs are free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Raffles:
Basket Raffle: Please drop off donations for Basket Raffle Baskets in the Narthex Coat Room before September 1st. Questions can be directed to Sara Case at 382-8768. The Basket Raffle tickets sales will begin in August. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and are available after Mass or in the Parish Office during office hours. Be sure to check out the featured basket on display in the narthex, as well as all baskets on display in the Faith Wing starting in August.

Cash Raffle: First prize will be $2,500. tickets will be available starting in August from the Parish Office and are $5 each or 6 for $25.

Remember you need not be present to win either of these raffles. Drawings to be held on Sunday, September 20th starting at 4:15pm in the Narthex.

Live Auction: To donate, please contact Tina Murray at 262-224-6882. The complete list of items will be announced by August.

Buffet Dinner:
Menu will include 2 meats. Side dishes include vegetables, potato and pasta salads. Of course you won't want to miss out on the home made pies donated by parishioners!
Early Bird Dinner Tickets will be available starting in August. Save 50c on each child or adult ticket until 9/11/09. Tickets ar the door are $9.00 and $4.5 per child (ages 6-12).
Buffet Dinner is served from 11:30am - 3:30pm in the Fiath Wing (or until food is gone).
Games: New to the Games will be Plinko. Also, near the games area, Hayrides will be available.

Hot off the Grill: Under the Big Top Tent brats and burgers will be grilled up by the Berggren family. Also, beer and soda will be available along with ice cream cones furnished by the Ice Cream Station of Horicon.

Live Music & Dancing:
This year we have a repeat of theleading band Dante's Bop. they will perform from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Donte's Bop is a quarted based in southeastern Wisconsin that has been performing since the mid 90's. the band specializes in a mix of vintage Country, Rockabilly, Pop and Jazz standards and original compositions.

Also, the Howard Schneider Variety Band will be returning as our featured music from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. the band performs the ultimate big band experience with Howard on vocals and trumpet. Dancing is encouraged!
So put on your tapping toes, or dancing shoes and come and enjoy these two days full of fun!

Horicon Chamber's 35th annual fine Arts & Crafts show. Approximately 130 booths and great food for all at the Horicon Chamber food stand and the Horicon Band Boosters homemade dessert stand.
Get your holiday shopping started early with these fine artist's and crafter's handcrafted items. Autumn Art on the Marsh takes place in a beautiful park setting with a variety of items that will interest everyone.

There will be lots of activities to do as you have your cookies and milk while waiting to sit on Santa's lap. The Horicon Lions Club will be offering Free Vision Screening and there will be coloring, movies, books, toys and more for you to play with while you wait.
