The Rock River Archeology Society will hold its annual Archeology Weekend October 10 and 11. This is a family event for all ages and is focused around the archeology, history, and pre-history of the Horicon Marsh and surrounding area. Admission is free to this event. Join us from 10 a.m – 4 p.m at the Horicon Marsh International Education Center located between Mayville and Horicon on Highway 28. Activities are held both outdoors and inside on both levels.

Check out our new additions this year. They include an International Wolf Center Info/Display, birchbark biting/ moose hair tufting/old art forms, learning how to make a dream catcher, seeing a Voyageur canoe display, finding out how a wigwam is constructed and watching a flintknapper. If you get hungry or just need a treat, The Horicon Ice Cream Station will be at the lower level with hot dogs, ice cream, nachos, and soda available for your purchase. Purchases can also be made for face painting, fry bread, stone age replicas, water, dream catcher kits, books, natural stone jewelry, Native American items and more.
Also featured will be local collectors with museum quality artifacts, corn grinding, fire starting techniques, corn husk doll making and children’s activities. See an atlatl demonstration and test your skills throwing the atlatl at a target.

A buck skinners encampment featuring Dirty Kettle and friends will educate young and old about the customs of Native Americans and early frontiersmen. Walk into the tepee, sit around the fire, and listen to the drums as Dirty Kettle and friends share information and answer questions. View the flag display of Wisconsin’s 11 Sovereign Nations, and try throwing a tomahawk.

Archeology Weekend is sponsored by the Rock River Archeology Society (RRAS).  If you are interested in becoming a member please speak to a representative at any point during the weekend. The admission is free but donations to RRAS are always accepted and appreciated in order to keep this fantastic educational event going for future years.  For more information please call 920-387-7893.
