THE OPEN DOOR COFFEEHOUSE IS THE NEWEST BLUE ZONES PROJECT APPROVED RESTAURANT

Mayville residents and visitors can enjoy a casual café atmosphere with healthier choices.

Mayville, Wisc. – August 19, 2017 – Blue Zones Project®, Dodge County announced The Open Door Coffeehouse as the newest Blue Zones Project Approved™ restaurant in Dodge County, reflecting its commitment to creating a healthier environment. Blue Zones Project is a community-led well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthier choices easier by encouraging simple changes to environment, policy, and social networks.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29, at 119 South Main Street, Mayville.

“Great coffee and service aren't our only passions when it comes to our coffeehouse. Health and well-being is also on the top of our priorities,” said Amber Schraufnagel, owner and president at The Open Door Coffeehouse. “There was never a doubt that Blue Zones Project was something we wanted to be a part of. We are so proud and honored to be recognized by Blue Zones Project as a healthy option. Blue Zones Project has only enhanced our mission to make positive changes in Mayville and the surrounding areas.”

With menu additions including a grilled vegetable panini option served on sourdough bread with zucchini, carrots, goat cheese, red onion, sun dried tomatoes, and red pepper, The Open Door Coffeehouse now offers a quick option for lunch and dinner guests who are looking for a healthy choice. Additionally, all paninis are served with a side of seasonal fruit.

Additional steps that the coffeehouse took were offering whole fresh fruit as a dessert alternative and promoting their new Blue Zones-inspired entrees on social media. The Open Door also encourages patrons to move naturally by biking or walking to their downtown location, as they have provided a bike rack for customers to use.

Blue Zones Project is brought to Dodge County through sponsorship by Beaver Dam Community Hospitals, in collaboration with Sharecare®, Inc. and Blue Zones, LLC. Dodge County is the first Blue Zones Project demonstration site in the state.
